Morgan Freeman sees growing political dysfunction in South Africa
And South Africa? "First time I was terrified, in 1992, I think. Mandela was out of jail, but he wasn't president yet. The Zulus and the Nationals were combining because they knew that the ANC had the numbers behind them. So riots were sprouting up all over the place. We were there to make a movie called Bopha [Freeman's directorial debut, starring Danny Glover, 1992]. It was about a black policeman, a guy his own community basically ostracises as an agent of apartheid, when he's really just trying to keep chaos at bay. We asked permission to film in Soweto, we had two riots to shoot, and we just figured, well, we'll just start a riot today," and he bursts out laughing at the suicidal idiocy of the idea. "We did it elsewhere in the end."
Today however, he sees growing political dysfunction in South Africa. "Right now," he says in a disenchanted tone, "the politics are totally controlled by the ANC. They can pretty much buy the presidency. I was there for the Jacob Zuma election and they had guys going out in the townships, buying people's votes with food parcels. They do it here, they do it over there ..."

Die aanvalle is op die daaropvolgende twee dae voortgesit. Plekke wat deurgeloop het was daardie jare bekend as Luvo, São Salvador, Madimba, Mavoio, Maquela do Zombo, M’Bridge, Songo, Carmona, Negege, Quitexe, Nova Caipemba en die Fazenda (plantasie) by die Lué rivier. Teixeira, wie se neef tydens hierdie aanvalle vermoor is, het die gebiede ‘n jaar na die aanvalle besoek en onderhoude gevoer met oorlewendes, ooggetuies, en soldate ten einde die gebeure te herkonstrueer. Foto's wat deur soldate afgeneem is, was in die boekklub uitgawe ingesluit, maar is vanweë die grusame aard daarvan weggelaat in die ander uitgawes. Honderde foto's is egter ingedien by ‘n spesiale kommissie van die Verenigde Nasies (VN) en was ook beskikbaar vir besigtiging by die destydse Suid-Afrikaanse uitgewers (Human en Rousseau, Kaapstad, 1965) van die boek.

Mafia Verhoor Kan Vonke Laat Spat

Die Mafiabaas Vito Palazzolo se arrestasie op 30 Maart vanjaar op Bangkok se lughawe, kan vir vuurwerke sorg tydens sy verhoor. Palazzolo is nou uitgelewer aan Italië vir verhoor op 'n magdom klagtes van geldwassery, korrupsie, omkopery en ander Mafiabedrywighede.
Palazzolo is vir byna twee dekades beskerm deur die regerings van De Klerk en die ANC en sy uitlewering aan Italië is elke keer geweier.
Wat nou in die verhoor na vore gaan kom, kan 'n baie groot verleentheid vir FW de Klerk, veral Pik Botha en ook die ANC wees. Dit is die mense wat die Mafiabaas beskerm het (teen vergoeding?) om met sy geldwasserysake voort te gaan deur ondermeer 'n bank in die destydse Ciskei te begin.

South African Murders Hit Scary Rate

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Watch your back in South Africa. They kill folks here. Murder them at a bewildering rate.
Robbers kill their victims, bystanders kill criminals, family members kill each other.
Gunbattles erupt on streets and in shopping malls. Passers-by whip out pistols and join in fire-fights between criminals and police or security guards. A recent flurry in high profile bloodshed even has police suggesting they are losing the fight with violent crime.
Plans for South Africa to host soccer's next World Cup, in 2010, has focused international attention on the crime rate, with organizers having to answer questions not just about whether they'll have enough stadiums and hotel rooms, but whether the 350,000 foreign visitors expected for the month-long tournament will be safe.
Statistically a South African is 12 times as likely to be murdered than the average American and his chances of being killed are 50 times greater than if he lived in western Europe.

Defining civil unrest

Look up "preparations for civil unrest" on Google and...What's that echo I hear?—you'll find nothing that's going to help you. In fact, you won't even easily turn up a good definition of what civil unrest is.
Like "indecency," the definition seems to be in the eye of the beholder.
I wouldn't consider a peaceful anti-war march to be civil unrest, for instance, but a police chief might. Similarly, I wouldn't consider acts of localized non-violent lawbreaking (like environmental activists chaining themselves to a tree) to be civil unrest; but a timber company official probably believes otherwise.
Civil unrest occurs when anger, frustration, or fear turn disruptive on a mass scale. Or when government officials crack down because they anticipate such disruptions. Crackdowns can lead to further frustration, leading to further crackdowns and so on—especially when the crackdowns look unwarranted and tyrannical.

Onder leiding van die Volksorganisasie Leiersberaad (VOLBER) is daar die afgelope naweek begin met ‘n nuwe hoofstuk in die politieke geskiedenis van Suid-Afrika. Onder Volber se leiding, is daar besluit op ‘n noodsaaklike paradigma-skuif oor die Volk se betrokkenheid in die Suid-Afrikaanse politiek, waarin die blankes vir hulleself ‘n toekoms moet beding en bepaal. Daar het al reeds 20 sogenaamde “regse” organisasies, bewegings en forums by VOLBER aangesluit, wat die nuwe rigting en inisiatief steun.

Combat Mindset - The Cooper Color Code
For those who are prepared to take a couple of minutes and read about a system that saves lives. It costs no money, only small and sustained effort to implement it and make it part of your daily existence.
If you do not realise the absolute necessity of this mindset your are either not living in SA, you are completely ignorant as to what is happening in this country and therefore not paranoid enough, or your are simply just plain stupid.
Nowadays we should constantly be functioning in yellow and never white, because we do not have that luxury. While we are driving on the road we should be flipping between yellow and orange as we approach intersections with traffic lights and stop signs, who is next to us, behind us and even in front of us.
The most important means of surviving a lethal confrontation, according to Cooper, is neither the weapon nor the martial skills. The primary tool is the combat mindset, set forth in his book, Principles of Personal Defense. In the chapter on awareness, Cooper presents an adaptation of the Marine Corps system to differentiate states of readiness.
The color code, as originally introduced by Jeff Cooper, had nothing to do with tactical situations or alertness levels, but rather with one's state of mind. As taught by Cooper, it relates to the degree of peril you are willing to do something about and which allows you to move from one level of mindset to another to enable you to properly handle a given situation. Cooper did not claim to have invented anything in particular with the color code, but he was apparently the first to use it as an indication of mental state.
