Volcano warning: Katla in Iceland set for eruption to dwarf last year's volcanic disaster

This is the kind of Natural event that could change the course of politics and economics as we anticipate it. History has shown us that the UK and parts of Europe could be covered in a cloud of ash for 8 months to 3 years.

A HUGE volcano in Iceland – one of the most feared volcanoes in the world – could blow which would cause chaos across Europe.

According to scientists Katla is on the brink of a major explosion which would dwarf the volcanic eruption last year.

Katla’s magma chamber is 10 times the size of Eyjafjallajokull, which grounded planes because of the ash that covered large parts of Europe.

A series of small tremors at Katla were detected in July but over the past few days signs are that pressure is building with minor earthquakes of magnitude four.

“It is definitely showing signs of restlessness. Volcanoes can be quite beautiful but they can also be quite destructive.” - Professor Pall Einarsson, of the Univ. of Iceland

Katla last erupted in 1918 when the ash blocked out the sunlight and caused agricultural disaster.

Ice covering the volcano could melt and flood farms with a torrent of water as wide as the Amazon river.
