The Shocking Truth About Farm Attacks and Farm Murders in South Africa

The information below is in support of yesterday's MESSAGE TO SOUTH AFRICANS FROM GENOCIDE WATCH DR GREGORY STANTON

According to the SA Institute of Race Relations "The analysis of statistics did not indicate that farm attacks were not a problem,". In proper, non politically correct terms, this means that the analysis of statistics showed it as being a problem.

The Institute also stated that "Rather it [the analysis of statistics] revealed just how vulnerable all South Africans are to violent crime."

It should be noted that, because of the SA Police Sevices' refusal to release any statistics on farm murders and farm attacks, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is forced to use the Transvaal Agricultural Union (TAU) statistics for calculations.

Attacks on SA whites are usually horrific and even include torture.

Based on news reports and civil research (which are by no means comprehensive) leading criminologists estimate that:

  • It is more dangerous to be a farmer in South Africa than a police officer on active duty;
  • One SA farmer is murdered every five days; and
  • The number of farm attacks in South Africa is approximately 700% higher than in the rest of the world.
  • In 2010, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimated the global murder rate to be 6,9 / 100 000 people per year; while
  • The South African farm murder rate is estimated to be well over ten times as much.
  • According to the Transvaal Agricultural Union (TAU) more 97 farmers per 100 000 are murdered. Shockingly higher than the national average.
  • According to an analysis of farm attack data collected by farmers' union TAU, there were 108 confirmed attacks in 1994.
  • The lowest number was 70 in 1996 just two years after the ANC took control of SA.
  • The highest number of farm attacks occurred in 2002, with 229 across the country.

In 2011, based mostly on official statistics:
  • South Africa had a murder rate of 31.9 per 100 000 people.
  • The house robbery rate was 33.4 per 100 000.
  • The total aggravated robbery rate was 203 per 100 000 people.
  • According to the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) there were 85 farm attacks and 50 murdered in 2011
  • The number of attacks per 100 000 farmers and farmworkers in the formal sector was 16.8; while
  • attacks aimed at commercial farmers and their families only, the rate of attack was 45.8 per 100 000 (assuming three dependants each)

Until the end of August 2012 already 100 farm attacks had taken place and and 30 farmers had been murder and there are still three months left of this year.

According to Institute's calculations farming families may be 13 times more likely to be attacked
